ArtReproductions™ The Golden Age

ifth Century BC was the heyday of Athenian hegemony with astonishing economic and cultural development of the city, under the governence of its first citizen, Pericles. After the peace treaty with the Persians, the Delian alliance became an empire of Athens and its treasury was moved from Delos to Athens. These treasures were used to fund the reconstruction of the Acropolis and the expansion of the Athenian fleet.

It was at that time that Athenians created many of the most greatest intelectual works in world histoy, eternal and authoritative, essentially laying the foundation of what is known today as Western Civilization. Proof to that is a simple quotation of names: It was the time of philosphers like Socrates, Plato, and sometime later Aristotle; tragic poets Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides , and shortly after Aristophanes; historians Herodotus and Thucydides; the father of medicine Hippocrates; architects such as Iktinos and Kallikrates; sculptors such as Phidias, Myron and Polykleitos

In more recent centuries, starting from the Rennaisance, Art is replete with works ispired by classical antiquity and especially the Golden Age, both among the prominent Renaissance artists such as Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, as well as artists of subsequent centuries.
